Teacher’s Tour A Success!
The first Northwestern Ontario Teacher’s Tour was held in Dryden on October 26-27, 2017, despite some snowy weather! This tour was offered as a professional development opportunity for teachers within the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board. The program included an evening of presentations and a tour at the Domtar mill in Dryden, followed by a field trip day. On the field trip, teachers had the opportunity to see a chipper operation, perform regeneration assessments, take tree measurements, and learn about culvert calculations. The tour wrapped up with a networking reception. This program was offered as a pilot project for 2017 focusing on the communities of Dryden, Ignace and Sioux Lookout with the intent to rotate throughout the KPDSB area over the years.
Lake of the Woods Section Spring Meeting
The Lake of the Woods Section Spring Meeting was held on June 13th in Kenora. Members met to review open positions within the Section. These positions were filled and a full contact list for the Section Executive can be found in the ‘Directors and Chairs’ tab. Members also discussed the upcoming Teachers Tour being held on October 27th in Dryden.
After lunch, those who were up to the challenge headed out to Muriel Lake to participate in a Forests Ontario tree plant with all proceeds going to Forests without Borders. In total, the Section raised $630 for FwB!
Lake of the Woods Section Teachers Tour
The Lake of the Woods Section is hosting its first ever Teachers Tour in the region! Based on the success of the National Teachers Tour held annually in Mattawa, members of the Section are working together to deliver a similar program in our region. This tour will take place in Dryden on October 27th, and the goal is to bring this program to other areas in our region in the years to come. If you are interested in participating in this exciting project, please contact Dianne Loewen (Dianne.Loewen@domtar.com)!
