Duties and Responsibilities of Section Council Members

  1. Chair/National Director Back to top
    Duties: Provide leadership for the section. Provide correspondence and business link with national office and the other Ontario Sections. Attend meetings of the Board of Directors of the CIF/IFC and present the Section's views and generally perform all the duties of a Director as provided for in the by-laws of the CIF/IFC. Perform liaison role with other agencies and organizations.
  2. Vice-Chair Back to top
    Duties: Act in the absence of the Chair. Coordinate special projects. Section representative on international forestry issues. Recommend revitalization strategies. Administer meeting details and other business of the section.
  3. Budget Planner & Treasurer Back to top
    Duties: Work with council to prepare and monitor an annual budget. Provide day-to-day financial services. Maintain up-to-date financial records.
  4. Secretary Back to top
    Duties: Carry-out general correspondence of the Section. Record and distribute minutes of all meetings. Maintain membership records of the section. Send out new members package. Bring forward business requiring attention.
  5. Communications Back to top
    Duties: Perform the duties of, or advise the newsletter editor. Coordinate the section input to the Forestry Chronicle. Develop and maintain a membership directory and conduct membership surveys.
  6. Newsletter Editor Back to top
    Duties: Prepare and distribute the section newsletter, with the support of the Communications Councillor and the other council members.
  7. Promotion and Issues Back to top
    Duties: Maintain liaison with MP's, MPP's and the media. Bring forward issues and strategies for section participation. Develop approaches to help members promote CIF and forestry with their communities. National Forest Week representative.
  8. Nominations and Recruitment Back to top
    Duties: Pursue obtaining new members and maintaining existing members. Produce and update a new members package. Coordinate nominations for council positions and for awards. Arrange for the presentation of awards.
  9. Working Groups and Continuing Education Back to top
    Duties: Promote the members active participation in the working groups. Liaise with the OPFA and CIF in promoting continuing education programs and opportunities for members.
  10. Public Education Back to top
    Duties: To coordinate the public education activities of the Section. To chair the CIF Kortright Centre Volunteer Committee.
  11. Student Back to top
    Duties: Promote CIF to students within their institution. Bring forth forestry issues pertaining to students and academics. Maintain communications with student leaders at other institutions. Council will ensure they are supported to travel to meetings.
  12. Post-Secondary School (if not represented in one of the other Councillors) Back to top
    This will preferably be covered by one of the first 10 council positions, but if none of these council members are instructors or other senior person within the University of Toronto, the University of Guelph or Sir Sandford Fleming College, then we will seek an additional councillor.
