Mark your calendars! The Canadian Institute of Forestry / Institut forestier du Canada (CIF-IFC) 2021 National Conference and 113th Annual General Meeting (AGM) is taking place October 5 - 7, 2021 online, in a completely virtual format. Registration is now open.

With less than a month to register, here are 12 reasons why YOU should attend!

Developed in collaboration with CIF-IFC Cariboo Section in northern British Columbia, this year’s conference theme, “Rooted in Resilience,” will explore the challenges faced in a changing forest sector and how innovation, reconciliation and diverse perspectives can offer a path forward in this uncertain reality.

The Conference program includes twelve (12)  concurrent and two (2) plenary sessions featuring over 60 dynamic speakers, moderators and special guests representing a wide variety of forestry sectors and organizations from within and outside of Canada.

Attend an entire Conference from the comfort of your home, school or workplace. No travel or accommodation expenses! All you’ll need to enjoy the Conference is a computer with internet and a comfortable setup (sweatpants welcome). So log in, sit back, relax and enjoy an informative and insightful Conference!

This year’s virtual Conference will, as with previous in-person conferences, enable open dialogue and discussion, knowledge exchange, and networking opportunities, including numerous virtual social events. Through a digital yet fully interactive platform, you will be able to participate in the Conference by watching and taking part in live presentations, accessing recorded content, chatting and networking with fellow Conference delegates, and visiting virtual exhibitors.

In addition to a full Conference program, delegates can enjoy a professional development session specifically designed for students, recent graduates, and new professionals. Gain an understanding of how to successfully start and advance a career in the fields of forestry and natural resources by hearing from the experts. Everyone is welcome to attend!

The CIF-IFC Student Quiz Bowl Competition will once again be a feature event of the Conference - taking place virtually. The Student Quiz Bowl is a fun and friendly academic competition, challenging the participants’ (and audience’s) forestry knowledge!

Don't miss out on this long-standing tradition of the Conference! Schools and students are encouraged to register now.

Are you interested in the CIF-IFC’s Continuing Forestry Education Program? You can earn credits by attending certain sessions at the virtual Conference! In addition, you will be able to print a Continuing Education Credit Certificate from your personal account in the virtual event portal at the end of the Conference.

All Conference sessions (concurrent and plenary) will be recorded and made available to delegates via the virtual event portal. As a result, you no longer have to choose between concurrent sessions or miss out on great content if you can only attend part of the Conference.

As a Conference delegate, you will have access to the virtual event portal 24 hours a day during the Conference proper and after the Conference has concluded. Therefore, you can rest assured that you will not miss a thing!

We know that social connections and networking are key drivers for attending Conferences. With this in mind, we are excited to announce that you will be able to chat and network with all Conference delegates as if you were at an in-person event. You are invited to connect with old friends, make new connections, and enjoy some fun and merriment during one of our social events!

This year’s Forests without Borders / Forêts sans frontières (FwB-FsF) Silent Auction fundraiser will be held virtually from September 28 to October 7. Conference delegates will have ten days to peruse and bid on the great items up for auction.

Connect with exhibitors virtually at this year’s Conference! Interact with exhibitors just as you would at the in-person Conference - all online through one-on-one chats, video calls and email.

New this year - gamification! Conference delegates will have the opportunity to find hidden codes inside and outside the conference’s virtual event portal. These codes can be collected and redeemed for prizes. You will be awarded codes by doing such things as attending sessions, speaking with exhibitors, and completing tasks. Let the games begin!
