2024 Program

2024 CONFERENCE & 116th AGM

Forest Protection

September 15-18, 2024

Under the theme Forest Protection, this multi-day Conference will explore various forest threats such as wildfire and invasive species and discuss a variety of sustainable forest management practices that protect our wildlands, and learn about ways to ensure the safety and wellness of our current and future forestry workforce.

The Conference will also include many activities where you can experience St. John’s and the surrounding area. Rich and colourful, rugged and refined, St. John’s is the creative capital, and the beating cultural heart of Newfoundland and Labrador. Woven into our history and tradition is a new wave of art, architecture, music, and cuisine all waiting for you to discover.

The Conference will take place from September 15-18, 2024 in St. John’s, NL.

In-Conference Tour

September 18, 2024

Come on a fieldtrip that brings you to Cape Spear, the Eastern most Point of North America. Turn your back to the sea and tell everyone on the continent that you have their back and wish them all the best. Drive through the picturesque fishing village of Petty Harbour and Galway, the largest new St. John’s subdivision that is leaving wetlands in tack, patches of native forest vegetation and creating wetlands of the future with a new approach to stormwater management. Catch a waterbomber display with a good lunch at Butter Pot Provincial Park and see patches of the Avalon Forest and the nearby Kalmia Barrens from multiple wildfires of the past years before fire protection. Take in a forestry stop that shows the many facets of multiple use of the Boreal B. 30 Avalon, some good examples of Urban Forestry, get a chance to climb into a waterbomber and end up at a special place called Quidi Vidi (Kitty Vitti) village. Here you can take in a cold one, something to eat at the first real Micro-Brewery of St. John’s or other eateries minutes from the East Coast Trail and close enough for you to walk back to the Sheraton.
