Director of Forest Ecology

Alberta Forest Products Association is seeking a highly motivated individual with policy and/or industry experience to lead the development and implementation of the association’s activities related to species at risk, land use and forest ecological matters. The role will focus on policy review/policy development and forest sector innovation. The Director is part of the Policy Team at AFPA and is responsible for building and fostering relationships with internal and external partners. The position is responsible for monitoring, evaluating, analyzing, communicating and advocating on ecological matters related to forest management. The successful candidate requires a balance of technical expertise and a collaborative approach to solution finding.

Faculty, Forest and Natural Areas Management

BCIT’s School of Construction and Environment is seeking a regular, full time (1.0 FTE) Faculty, Forest and Natural Areas Management, who has the skills and knowledge in Forest Measurements and Forest Engineering. The Forest and Natural Areas Management (FNAM) program trains graduates for employment in a range of fields including industrial forestry, urban forestry, silviculture, arboriculture, GIS, digital field mapping, and natural resources management. Graduates are eligible for registration as Registered Forest Technologists (RFT) in British Columbia and have a number of available pathways to other levels of certification and education.

Regional Vice President, Saskatchewan

The Regional Vice President, Saskatchewan is responsible for the leadership and oversight of NCC’s operations across the Saskatchewan region.

Reporting directly to the Vice President, Operations the leadership position of Regional Vice President (RVP), Saskatchewan, is an integral member of the Senior Management Team (SLT) and the Operations Leadership Team (OLT) and works closely with a Regional Advisory Board. The RVP, Saskatchewan, is responsible for providing leadership, direction and guidance for all Saskatchewan regional staff and operational activities to advance NCC’s organizational objectives within the Saskatchewan region.

Practices Forester

The Practices Forester is accountable for performing a wide variety of professional services including operational planning, cut block and forest road layout and development, planning and evaluating silviculture activities, and ensuring compliance with the Forest Stewardship Plan. The range of duties assigned to a particular Practices Forester will vary from Business Area to Business Area due to the geographic location, apportionment and management requirements.

This position can be based out of either Dawson Creek or Fort St John, BC.

The position provides a coordinating effort on Professional Services contracts (Eg Biologist, Hydrologist, or Visual assessments) that helps the Planning and Development teams meet the apportionment targets. The individual will have a high level of BCTS business Data quality/contract management knowledge and have the ability to a champion on both for the planning team in the Kamloops Business Area. This position will help provide an expedited response, using local processes, on special projects such as Forest Health and wildfire incidents.  The Individual will also be a main point of contact during BCTS’s yearly stakeholder referral and work with other BCTS staff to provide timely reply’s

Cone and Seed Processing Supervisor

The Tree Seed Centre processes, tests, registers, stores, and distributes both private and public seed used for Crown land reforestation. The TSC also safeguards the provincial seed supply and ensures adequate genetic diversity of tree seed used for reforestation. As well as being a processing and research facility, the TSC serves as the provincial cone and seed repository for the purposes of reforestation as well as an ex situ gene conservation bank. The TSC is the only repository of its kind in BC, and due to the highly valuable nature of its inventory, the TSC has been designated as “Mission Critical”.

As the Cone and Seed Processing Supervisor, you are responsible for planning, conducting, assessing, documenting and reporting cone and seed processing activities. This role involves supervising technicians and coordinating and adapting to a wide variety of concurrent cone and seed production processes/treatments/environments with the goal of producing high quality seed. This role demands sound judgement, adaptability, and initiative while working in a co-operative team environment.

Boreal Landscape Analyst

Stewardship Officer

Supporting the Campbell River Natural Resource District’s Stewardship Team, the Stewardship Officer provides senior professional services including team leadership, review of forest stewardship proposals and preparation of recommendations to decision makers. The Stewardship Team in Campbell River administers forest stewardship plans and the woodlot program, leads the local Forest and Range Evaluation Program and provides input to the Ministry’s timber supply review process and other landscape level processes.
