“Spreading Seeds- Meet your Neighbours” event
On March 22, 2024, the CIF-IFC Northwestern Ontario Section hosted an event Spreading Seeds: Meet Thunder Bay’s Nature-based Not-for-Profit Neighbours.
We had 60 people in attendance, with students, teachers, forestry and environmental professionals, MNR, the city, Parks Canada, and local interest groups who run many different projects in and around the area like the Adelaide Butterfly Garden.
At the event, there were booths and presentations from:
- Canadian Institute of Forestry
- Centre for Research & Innovation in the Bio-economy (CRIBE)
- Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters
- Nature Conservancy Canada
- Eco Superior
- Lakehead Region Conservation Authority
- Thunder Bay Field Naturalists
- World Wildlife Fund
- Wildlife Conservation Society Canada
The event was originally set for the spring of 2020, and we were all ready to go but then we had to cancel the event with COVID happening. Since then, the plan and idea had been firmly planted in our minds to make it happen again. The NWO Section council really came together to help put this on, and the feedback from our guests has been great!
“Keeping the presentations quick and offering time for mingling was great!”
“…collaboration among like-minded organizations.”
“This was a great opportunity to reconnect and meet new representatives from various organizations”
The NWO Section council hopes to continue this event into the future and expand on the momentum! We have already received many ideas for the next seminar. Thank you to all of our spectacular presenters and our guests for making the event a success. We hope to see you at the next one.
