How does the program work?

Tree(s) purchased through the CIF-IFC’s Trees of Celebration Program will be planted in a Canadian province of your choosing. Tree(s) can be purchased directly from the CIF-IFC website above and online merchandise store.

As a national non-profit organization and the voice of forest practitioners, the CIF-IFC is well positioned to help you celebrate your life milestone by working with tree planting partners across Canada who have the expertise and knowledge to ensure the right trees are planted in the right location for the right reasons.

After purchasing your tree(s), you will receive a personalized tree e-certificate with the recipient’s name. You will also receive an email/notification of when and where the tree(s) is planted as well as the approximate tree planting location.

Where do the proceeds go?

Your purchase has an impact! A percentage of the proceeds from the total sale of each tree(s) goes to the following organizations:

  • Forests without Borders – a registered charity established by the CIF-IFC, working to protect, restore or improve forest landscapes for health, security, the economy and the environment nationally and internationally (fwb-fsf.org);
  • Tree planting partners – the CIF-IFC works with organizations on-the-ground across Canada, who are dedicated to ensuring that all trees purchased through the program get planted; and
  • CIF-IFC – support for program administration and delivery as a not-for-profit organization.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
If I have questions about the program, who should I contact?

You can email admin@cif-ifc.org with any questions related to the CIF-IFC’s Trees of Celebration Program and our team would be happy to assist you.

Where will the tree be planted and can I choose which species is planted?

Tree(s) will be planted in the province you have selected; however, the specific planting location and tree species can unfortunately not be chosen at this time. We currently only plant trees in Canadian provinces, but are looking to expand efforts to plant trees in Canadian territories in the future. The CIF-IFC collaborates with tree planting partners – organizations that have expertise of their local area, site conditions and suitable species and are responsible for determining the species and planting location.

What size of trees are planted?

Currently, the trees planted as part of the CIF-IFC Trees of Celebration Program are seedlings.

Are there any plaques or identifying markings on the trees or at the planting site?

Due to the locations of where the trees are planted (often rural or remote areas of reforestation/afforestation sites), there are no plaques or identifying markings on the trees or at the planting sites. However, you will receive information on the general tree planting location and an interactive map will be available soon on our website indicating where the trees were planted.

Am I able to visit the tree I purchased?

As the purchased trees are often planted in rural or remote areas (i.e., reforestation/afforestation sites) that may not be accessible to the public, it is not possible to visit the trees. You will however receive information on the general tree planting location and an interactive map will be available soon on our website indicating where the trees were planted.

When will the trees be planted?

Trees will be planted in either the spring or fall (from May to October). Trees purchased between January 1st to July 1st will be planted during that same calendar year. Trees purchased between July 2nd and December 31st will be planted in the following calendar year (for example: if a tree is purchased on April 3, 2023, it will be planted in 2023. If a tree is purchased on September 1, 2023, it will be planted in 2024). After purchase, you will be notified when the tree(s) are expected to be planted.
Note: timing of tree planting is subject to change depending on location and tree planting partner availability and planting schedules.

Are the planted trees monitored (i.e., is there any way of knowing if my tree survived)?

Currently, there is no mechanism in place to monitor the long-term health of the planted trees. But rest assured, our tree planting partners across Canada have the expertise and knowledge to ensure that the right trees are properly planted in the right location for the right reasons.
