Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Declaration of Intent

As the national voice of forest practitioners, the CIF-IFC aims to provide leadership and inspire confidence and pride in Canadian forestry.

The CIF-IFC Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Leadership Team has developed a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Declaration of Intent (or Pledge) for the Institute.

This Declaration of Intent calls for the CIF-IFC membership to use individual and collective voices to advance diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) across the forest sector through intentional and meaningful action. It outlines opportunities all members intend to take to cultivate a trusting environment where all ideas are welcomed, and members feel comfortable and empowered to have an open dialogue about DEI. Our organization is committed to “speaking up and speaking out” for the forest sector, and we include in that the importance of advocating for policies and practices that support DEI.

This Pledge has roots in the Free to Grow in Forestry initiative, which aims to achieve gender equality and meaningful inclusion of equity-deserving groups, including women, Indigenous Peoples, new Canadians, global majorities, 2SLGBTQIA+, people living with disabilities, at all levels in the forest sector.

Promoting & advocating for diversity, equity & inclusion within the Institute and beyond

By working together to promote and advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion within our Institute, we believe we can cultivate meaningful change for the forest sector and our communities.

Steps for CIF-IFC Sections to adopt the DEI Declaration of Intent:
  1. Read the CIF-IFC Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Declaration of Intent (Pledge).
  2. Put forward a motion to adopt the Pledge at a Section Council meeting.
  3. Once motion is moved, email media@cif-ifc.org to notify the CIF-IFC National Office and DEI Leadership Team that your Section has successfully adopted the Pledge.
